If you haven't heard yet, the weather has been something esle this past week here in Michigan. Sunday & Monday we had a "snowpocalypse" as most people are calling it. I just call it a slightly more brutal winter in Michigan. The temperatures have been in the negatives (which, it's very discouraging getting ready for work in the morning when the weather app says "-2, feels like -31") for most days, but this morning it finally warmed up! The temperatures were at about 30, which felt like spring time! Plus, it was super foggy, which just looked awesome and it kind of why the background in these pictures is completely white. haha.

Awesome story about this coat. On New Year's Day, my mom, aunt, cousin and I went up to the mall because I had to return some stuff (and we all wanted something to do) and just before we left, we popped into Anthropologie. I've been looking for an awesome coat like this since I fell in love with Taza's and I just about died when I found this coat in their clearence section. Not only was it on clearence, but all of their clearence was 25% off! Not only that, but it was the last one and it was just my size. I'm sorry, but I'm a sucker for something that screams "fate". Although, with the price I bought it at, I felt like I was pretty much stealing it.

One more awesome clothing story. Not as awesome, but still pretty sweet. I found this shirt on pinterest and, much to my surprise, found the link almost immedietly to the shirt. It says, "Cat Hair is Lonely People Glitter". It made me laugh so hard I just had to buy it.

a sweater and a skirt

We're moving! Whoo-hoo! And by "we" I mean David and I. We just found out the good news Wednesday night, which was great and terrible timing all wrapped up into one. I had some finals to finish and so I couldn't exactly relish in the excitement, plus I'll be working non-stop all weekend, which will give me little time to pack at all, let alone help with the moving process. But the great news is, that we'll be moved in before his siblings are here from California. I can't wait to see them!!!! And I'm hoping that one of them will come stay with us in our new place, even if it isn't quite ready.

Some exciting things are happening guys and I'm so glad that I get to share it with everyone! And I definitely can't wait to share some new house things with you all once we're moved in! December is gonna be a great month and I can't wait to see what January brings us too!!

life lately

Lately, life has been filled to the brim with changes and lots of work. As I finish up this semester (I had 5 papers due this week! yuck!) and David finishes up his student teaching, I think we both find ourselves very grateful for the upcoming holiday season.

Despite the craziness lately, I have some awesome plans coming up for the holiday season that I'm SO excited to share with everyone!!

home inspiration

David and I have been looking at places to move into soon, which is so exciting (and a little scary!). Since we'll be moving into a temporary rental, I've been trying to find some inspiration and decorating ideas that aren't permanant. Luckily, the place we'll be (hoopefully) moving into allows us to paint the walls and hang stuff, which is awesome!

I really love the idea of hanging plants because I think it brings a lot of warmth and character into a home. I have to be careful of what plants we buy though because some aren't good for cats. I love that confetti wall in the first picture that I think would be great for a bathroom or even bedroom. I'm just thrilled all around!

Do you guys have any cool and fun ideas for making a place your own?

a new member to the clan

Yesterday we picked up a new member for our family. It was an early Christmas gift for my mama (and Newton). He doesn't have a name just yet, but we're thinking of Kepler, to keep with the famous scientist theme of our dog names (Newton). He fits right in so far, hopping on the couch and rolling over on his back to get belly rubs and cuddles. I even laid right on top of him, which is what I do to Newton, and he was definitely a-okay with that! I love him so much already!

indian summer

I know I said this before, but I'm pretty sure that this day was the officially the last day of this indian summer. I went with my friend Chance to a nearby metro park to shoot some pictures. It was nice catching up with him since I haven't seen him in basically forever. And let me tell you about this Michigan weather happening. The day these pictures were taken was Sunday and it was beautiful out and most of the day I didn't wear a jacket. The next day was freezing. And now today I woke up to frosted lawns, car windows, and just a hint of snow. Uhm, what?! I'm never ready for winter and you bet I'm counting down the days until it's shorts weather again. Until then, I'm diggin' on this autumn light. mmm.

an autumn day walk

The other day, I had a long list of to-do's. It consisted of cleaning my bathroom, reading "Antigone", putting away all my clothes from my trip to Chicago, and so on. Instead I did none of those because the lighting was perfect outside. I decided to take a walk down the path by my house and photograph the outdoors. Let me tell you, it was absolutely refreshing. My bathroom still has black nail polish spilled on the floor, I finished "Antigone" just moments before class started, and although my clothes aren't in the suitcase anymore, they are all over my floor instead. But I'm okay with that right now because sometimes you have to choose your battles. That day, it was nature and the last bits of this Indian summer that won me over. Really, it was exactly what this girl's heart needed at the moment. I can't tell you how refreshed those few moments outside doing exactly what I love made me feel after the whirlwind of homeworkandreadingandworkandreadingandhomeworkandChicagoandlife. Sometimes all it really takes to make you happy is a walk on a path with a camera in hand.

painting a bird house

Last weekend on a rainy day while I was watching Riley, we decided to paint a bird house. She had painted one at my home quite some time ago and since then has been determined to paint another with me. While she was painting I realized how much older she's gotten. I know it sounds crazy, but one day you're thinking, "oh my little sister is two-years-old," and in a blink of an eye you say, "my sister is turning five in July." Uhm, what!? Five?? She can't be yet! And yet there I was, admiring how skilled she's become at holding a paintbrush and how precise she is with the colors (although it may not look it!) Oh, and those feet! I remember when they were the size of my pinky! Oh, she's just getting too big too quickly. But no matter how big she is and how sore my arms are from carrying her, she will always be my little baby sister who says the most outrageous things you can imagine.

Louie being Louie.

The other day, Louie spent fifteen minutes playing with a blanket on my bed. He's just too cute! I think he's been a little lonely with me being away quite a bit this week and so he was trying to get my attention with his cutenss. Am I a crazy cat lady? Well, I'm certainly not crazy...

Louie doesn't get enough love on this blog though. He's my little helper with everything and he's so loyal to his mommy. Without him, I would have spent quite a few nights being very lonely and bored. Not to mention his patience when I squeeze the love out of him with my hugs!

it snowed!

It snowed all night yesterday and when we woke up this morning there was at lesat a foot of snow just waitng for us to play in it! Joey and I went out to play in it all. We made snowballs and snow forts galore! It was a blast!

What do you guys do when it snows? Do you have any traditions at all like staying in and watching movies with popcorn?
