Sister Sleepover

This past Saturday night, David was out of town so I had myself a little sister sleepover at the apartment. My sisters Amanda, Madie, and Riley came over and we had ourselves a little party. We started the night out with delicious dinner (that Amanda only liked a little and Riley didn't like at all, but I sure did!), then we watched the Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella, while muching on s'mores dip (I'll post the recipe later this week). The following morning I made cinnamon pancakes with cream cheese frosting and took a long walk around my neighborhood. It was so much fun and just what I needed!

Sammy also enjoyed the party!

Riley had never seen this version of Cinderella, and she loved dancing to the ballroom scene. It was adorable.

Even after a long night of rest, Madie was still a little sleepy the next day. ;)

Sister Sleepover Must-Haves

This weekend David is headed out for a boy's getaway (or is that weird to call it that?) and so I'm having a party of my own. All three of my sister's are coming over for a sleepover at my apartment. I'm so excited for the party that we're going to have, that I've been scheming up things to do and have already. Here are some of my must-haves for an awesome sister sleepover!

one. Super comfy pajamas that are appropriate to wear in front of your sisters (I'd be lying if I said I didn't normally just sleep in a tee and my undies). These ones from Gap are adorable!

two. Obviously, you need some yummy treats. I love these super easy chocolate lava cookies. The recipe makes a pretty small batch, which is perfect since there are only four of us.

three. An awesome movie! We are big Grease fans over here! Whenever there is karaoke around (which is often in my family) we are all ove that soundtrack like white on rice.

four. Face masks! I can't tell you the last time I used a face mask (junior high?) but they seem so alluring and relaxing now. Plus, this one smells like pomagranate!

five. We need a good breakfast to look forward to in the morning! Despite my six-year-old sister rooting for what she calls "Snap, crackle, pop" (Rice Krispy cereal) I'm planning on making a good ol' waffle. Or french toast. I haven't yet decided, but these snickerdoodle waffles sound delicious!

six. Guests need some fluffy pillows and cozy blankets (even if they are just your sisters). I am coveting this gorgeous and super comfy-looking bedspread from Anthropolgie. Although, if I owned it, I'd probably claim it as my own and give the ratty blankets to my sisters. ;)

 

What kinds of things would be on your sleepover must-haves list?

DIY Foodie Tees

This past Sunday, my sister Amanda came over to make some food-inspired t-shirts with me and have dinner. We each picked out our favorite foods (mine is ice cream and Amanda's is pizza!) and made up a tee to go with it! It was fun working on a a craft with my sister. She is so unbelievabley creative and talented! In fact, I drew the outline of my food and let her handle the rest because she was doing such an awesome job on her own! Here's how to make your own.

supplies:

cotton t-shirt (we picked ours up at Target)
fabric paintfabric markerscardboard or posterboard that can fit in the shirtclips and/or rubberbands to hold the shirt in placepaintbrushes

First, put the piece of cardboard inside the t-shirt to seperate the front and back layers of the shirt. Clip in place or use larger rubberbands to keep in place. Outline the food you want to draw. We just free-handed ours, but you can definitely trace something instead! We used the fabric markers to outline ours and did it very,very lightly, but you can probably use a pencil as well.

Trace the outline a darker and with more purpose once you have a light sketch of what you want made up.

Next, using the fabric pain, shade in your sketch. You may need to go over the outlines again with the marker.

Then, enjoy your food tee! I've used both this paint and these fabric markers before and they haven't faded in the wash ever, but be careful with the kind you use and maybe even test them on a different piece of fabrice before using.

a trip to Ann Arbor.

Last week, I went to visit my sister out in Ann Arbor and we had a sleepover! It was so much fun getting to see her. We made dinner together and watched some t.v. shows, but mostly we took pictures of her cute little kitten, Indy. It was nice to be able to spend some one on one time with her and it made me wish she was closer so that we could do it more often. Amanda realy is just the best sister anyone could ask for.
